In the world that we live in today, everyone seems to be rushing around, pursuing their own goals and dreams, and sometimes forgetting how truly important it is to help the community. In an effort to address this, the school board has deemed it so that high school students shall be required to have a certain amount of community involvement to graduate. This school year, however, takes volunteering at Western to a whole new level.
Led by English teacher and Volunteer Coordinator, Mrs. Ann Riffel, a new program called the Western Volunteer Tribe was established and has created four new committees with the goal of bringing opportunities to get involved a little closer to home. These committees involve helping animal shelters, working in soup kitchens, holding fundraisers, and assisting children at local elementary schools. Parents and members of the business community are encouraged to contact Western with possible resources in connection to the ongoing committee work.
